Peace Dove

Peace Dove is an allegorical sculpture in Nasimi Park in Sumgait, Azerbaijan. Created by Sumgait’s chief artist Vagif Nazirov and architect Asim Guliyev, it was opened in 1978 in a new public park on the Caspian Sea coast. The monument is made of monolithic concrete and is painted white. It depicts a stylized dove with outstretched wings, poised to take flight, and stands on a low pedestal with a paved area around it. The sculpture is a symbol of the city and is also shown on its coat of arms. The park and monument were renovated in 2008, and the sculpture was restored again in 2013 after earlier reports in 2012 that it might be demolished.
