Monument to the Unknown Woman Worker

Monument to the Unknown Woman Worker is a 1992 sculpture by Louise Walsh in Belfast, Northern Ireland, in the United Kingdom. It stands on Great Victoria Street beside the Europa Hotel. The original commission from the Department of the Environment aimed to reflect the nearby Amelia Street’s history as a red-light district, but Walsh disagreed with that approach and shifted the focus to women’s rights in low-paid jobs and unpaid domestic work. Walsh was born in County Cork and earned her master’s degree in sculpture at the University of Ulster.
