Huseyn Javid Monument

The Huseyn Javid Monument is a bronze memorial complex in Baku, Azerbaijan, located in the square named after the poet on Huseyn Javid Avenue. It was created by National Artist of Azerbaijan, sculptor Omar Eldarov, together with architects Yusif Gadimov and Rasim Aliyev. Work on the monument began in Soviet Azerbaijan but was delayed after the collapse of the USSR, when funding stopped. The project was eventually completed in independent Azerbaijan and opened on 27 May 1993. According to Eldarov, the monument was conceived as a tribute not only to Huseyn Javid but also to many Azerbaijanis who became victims of political repression in the first half of the 20th century.
