Dornröschen
Dornröschen, also known as Sleeping Beauty, is a marble sculpture by Louis Sussmann-Hellborn, housed at the Alte Nationalgalerie in Berlin, Germany. The life-size figure shows Sleeping Beauty asleep in a throne chair decorated with fantastic Romanesque ornamentation. Her arms rest on the armrests, while rampant roses climb up the chair and the fateful spindle lies on the floor. The work is inscribed “L. Sussmann, Berlin” and was made in Carrara marble. It was given as a gift from the artist in 1888. The sculpture appears to be based on the Brothers Grimm version of the fairy tale and was completed a few years before the premiere of Sleeping Beauty Ballet.
